The Philadelphia Eagles were riding high after beating the New York Giants last week. They faced the Washington Football Team who were looking to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. The Eagles used an offensive explosion from their rushing attack to beat them 20-16.
It did not look good early in the game for the Eagles. They were missing opportunities early in the game to show Washington it was not their game. They could not put a sustainable drive together and Philly missed two crucial fourth down conversions. With the way the Eagles played in that first half they were lucky to only be down nine points. They were saved by Boston Scott who picked up right where he left off from last week. He scored two touchdowns and rushed for 47-yards. Scott played like somebody who was desperate for a win, and he propelled the Eagles to the victory by securing crucial first downs to keep their drives alive.
On what makes Scott so special, “What makes Boston so good at goal line? Compact, hits hole hard- move laterally. Hard for dee to see what hole he’s hitting,” said Eagles Tight End Dallas Goedert.
Washington was able to take full advantage of the slow start of the Eagles in the first half they scored a rushing touchdown on their opening drive and a field goal on their next drive. Before the Eagles could even really get settled into this game. They were down by 10-points. Washington was threatening to blow the game open. Philly had no answers for Taylor Heinicke he was carving them up and was 14/14 on passing attempts in the second half. They were able to prevent him from completing a touchdown pass throughout this game.
In the second half the Eagles got more pressure on Heinicke and that forced him into a crucial mistake that allowed Philly to keep their playoff hopes alive. He threw an interception on Washington’s last drive of the game. That turnover secured the victory for the Eagles.
Now they will have a crucial match-up with the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday afternoon. Its simple for Philly win the game and they are in the playoffs. They will need to rely on that rushing attack to keep the defensive line of the Cowboys at bay. If they want to get their 10th win of the season and secure a playoff spot.
