Kanye West was hospitalized on Monday afternoon, because he was acting erratically and was placed under involuntary hospitalization by his doctor. West refused to go to the hospital when Emergency Service Workers and police officers arrived. West is currently being treated at UCLA Medical Center.
For people who have been paying attention, this may not be a surprise, for the past few days West has not been well for a long time. West stopped performing during a concert in Sacramento, CA after 30 minutes. Before stopping the concert, West went on to attack Jay-Z and Beyoncé on one of his famous rants. After ranting on Jay-Z and Beyoncé, West could not finish his concert.
West abruptly cancelled the rest of his Life of Saint Pablo Tour, and give fans a full refund. West has been crying out for some type of help from friends and family, since his mother died in 2007. West never really had time to grieve his mother’s death, and has been on this downward spiral since then.
An early warning to fans came from Kanye’s co-writer Che “Rhymefest” Smith. In February 2016 Rhymefest quit working for Kanye West.
When asked about why he stopped working with West, Rhymefest said, “My brother needs help, in the form of counseling. Spiritual and mental. He should step away from the public & yes men & heal” (http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/hip-hop/6875189/kanye-west-co-writer-rhymefest-life-of-pablo-quits-says-rapper-needs-counseling, 2-13-16).
Here we are nine months later and Kanye is being mentally evaluated for a psychotic breakdown, it highlights one of the things that we never talk about in the black community, the mental health of black men after a traumatic situation. Hopefully, Kanye can get the help he needs and come back stronger than ever.
