Spiked Giants

The Philadelphia Eagles faced the New York Giants looking to right the ship after losing three straight games. Just like most of the season nothing is easy for the 2023-24 Eagles squad. This game matched the theme of this season so far the Giants and the Eagles traded blows throughout this game. However, when the Eagles needed it they put together a signature performance to beat New York 33-25.

The Eagles started this game off very strongly they were able to score on their first drive and finally found some balance in their offense. They mixed the run and pass game to perfection and were able to end the drive with a Jalen Hurts rushing touchdown. The Giants had no answers for what the Eagles were doing early on their defenders were overmatched by the aggressive play of Philly who were playing like they needed this game. Jalen Hurts was actually taking what the defense was giving him and he was able to connect with Devonta Smith over the middle for his only passing touchdown of the game. This offense is way better when Hurts makes good decisions and the run game is mixed in. That should be the top priority for the offensive coaches and the players get the run game going and take the short to medium pass plays. If they are successful at doing that the defenders will move up and the big plays will be available like it was tonight. The Eagles did turn the ball over twice and they will need to clean that up if they want to go far in the playoffs.

The Giants to their credit continued to fight throughout this game they benched Tommy DeVito and went with Tyrod Taylor and that is when the momentum started to shift towards the Giants. Taylor’s athleticism gave the Eagles defense fits and allowed the running lanes to open for Saquon Barkley. He scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion. A Giants pick-six made this game a lot more uncomfortable than the Eagles wanted, but New York was not able to turn enough of Philly’s mistakes into points and that was the difference in this game. The Giants did not have enough talent to compete with Philly tonight but the Eagles still have a lot to clean up if they want to be a threat in the post season to go back to the super bowl in Las Vegas.

The Eagles will now prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon and they will need to continue to have a balanced offensive attack if they want to stay ahead of the Kyler Murray and the explosive Cardinals offensive unit. They will need to use the shiftiness of D’Andre Swift like they did tonight to devastate the Giants defense. When they get him out in space it usually ends up in positive plays for Philly. Additionally, they will need to play better on the defensive end it improved tonight but they still gave up way too many points and opportunities to New York’s offense. Mistakes that Kyler Murray will surely make them pay for if they give him similar looks on Sunday Afternoon. If they can implement these things they can get their 12th win of the season.
