Emmurdered Hornets

The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to rebound after falling to the Detroit Pistons. They faced a hungry Charlotte Hornets squad that was looking to get another win at the expense of Philly. The Sixers used a third quarter explosion to beat the Hornets 144-114.

The Sixers jumped on the Hornets from the opening tip-off, they were able to hit their shots early in the game. Joel Embiid led them he had 19 of his 29-points by half-time. He also grabbed 14-rebounds and took full advantage of the fact that the Hornets had no one on their roster who could stop him. Embiid got whatever he wanted from the field and single-handedly kept his team in front during this game. His playmaking has continued to be a huge development for Philly. He was able to find his teammates in their sweet spots when the Hornets would double or triple-team him. This has continued to help the Sixers rocket up the standings and will be pivotal when the playoffs begin.

Despite the scoring explosion from Embiid. Charlotte weathered the early storm and continued to make things difficult for the Sixers. They took full advantage of Philly being careless with the ball. They forced them into 17-turnovers. Those turnovers allowed the Hornets to get out on the fast break and get some easy baskets when Philly’s defense was not set. Miles Bridges led them he scored 20-points and took full advantage of some holes in the Sixers defense. He got whatever he wanted from the field and Philly could do little to stop him. They were able to force his teammates into some ill-advised shots that allowed Philly to stay ahead.

The Sixers were able to put this game away in the third quarter. Charlotte was threatening to retake the lead and run Philly off the court. The Sixers responded by scoring 45-points they were propelled by Tobias Harris who scored 23-points and made five three-pointers. Harris’ three-point shooting has continued to be pivotal for the Sixers. These last few games will be pivotal for Harris to continue to get better from the three-point line. His scoring will take pressure off Embiid and Harden. Harris’ three-point shooting will also help Philly in the playoffs because it will force opposing teammates to think twice about double-teaming Embiid or Harden.

Philly will now prepare to face the Cleveland Cavaliers tomorrow night. They will need another balanced scoring night to keep up with the explosive offense of the Cavs. Additionally, they will need to improve their perimeter defense if they want to stifle the Cavaliers and get their 48th win of the season.
