Emdammed Lakers

The Philadelphia 76ers were riding high after beating the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. They faced a game Los Angeles Lakers squad that was looking to stop their momentum. Philly was able to use an offensive explosion to beat LA 105-87.

Philly was able to jump on the Lakers early in the game. They were able to hit their shots early and LA had no answers for them. They were led by Joel Embiid (26-points) and Tobias Harris (23-points) who combined for 49 of the Sixers 105-points. Both were near unstoppable tonight. Especially Embiid who was able to get whatever he wanted from the field. His numbers were down from what they have been tonight, but he made the right basketball plays. Finding his teammates when the Lakers would double team him. That allowed the other players to get into their rhythm. Especially Harris who was able to find his shot when the Lakers would double Embiid. He hit three three-pointers tonight. If Harris continues to round into form the Sixers will be a dangerous team in the wide-open Eastern Conference.

On Embiid’s impact on the team, “With all the stuff floating around this team, we just keep winning. A lot of that has to do with Joel’s leadership,” said 76ers Head Coach Doc Rivers.

The Lakers did not have LeBron James who did not play because of left knee soreness. But they did have Anthony Davis who put on a show. He scored a game high 31-points and Philly had no answers for him. It did not matter if a hand was in his face or not, he was hitting his shots from all over the court. He single-handedly kept the Lakers in the game when the Sixers were threatening to run them off the court.

The Sixers hitting 13-three-pointers made the biggest difference in this game and allowed them to beat the Lakers. They now prepare for the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night. They will need another balanced scoring night from players not named Embiid, Harris, and Maxey. Additionally, they will need to play better perimeter defense if they want to stifle the backcourt of the Kings and get their 30th win of the season.
