The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to rebound after losing to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. The series was tied, and Philly had homecourt. Unfortunately for them Atlanta came storming back and they once again bowed down to the pressure. Losing 109-106 and now on the brink of elimination with game 6 on the horizon in Atlanta
It looked good early on for the Sixers they got a dominant performance from center Joel Embiid. Who showed up like he had something to prove scoring 17 of his 37-points in the first half and the team was dominating the Atlanta Hawks. They had no answer for Embiid, and the team was rolling. They had a 26-point lead by half-time.
Unfortunately for Philly they had two more quarters to play and that is when the wheels started coming off. The second unit did not do their job in this game they could not maintain an 18-point lead. Only scoring 13-points. Philly had to insert their starters and they also suffered a power outage and Atlanta took full advantage. Going on a late scoring run to erase an 18-point lead and stunning Philly in the process.
Guard Trae Young was able to hit some late buckets and scored 39-points to will his team back in the game and take the 3-2 lead.
On the loss, “This one is gonna hurt. It hurts. Tomorrow, we gotta put it behind us and go in and win in Atlanta,” said Sixers forward Tobias Harris.
For the second night in a row the Sixers had no answer for Atlanta’s fight. The only people that showed up were Embiid and Seth Curry who both combined for 63-points. They need some help and now Philly is on the brink of an all-time collapse. Guard/forward Ben Simmons and forward Tobias Harris need to find their offensive games come Friday night and Coach Rivers needs to find some answers. Or it will be another tough offseason in Philly. All the promise and all the work from this season is on the line and the Sixers need to answer the call.
On the mind set heading into elimination game on Friday night, “Our backs are against the wall right now, and we have to play like it,” said Harris.
