Tonight, will mark the end of a very tumultuous season in Men’s College Basketball. The FBI is investigating major programs like Louisville, NC State, Arizona, and many more. In the shadow of all this turmoil the NCAA could not have asked for a better championship match-up between two basketball heavyweights, the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Villanova University Wildcats.
The Wildcats had a very tough road to the title game. They had to battle a defensively tough West Virginia team, and over the weekend blew out Kansas with a three-point barrage.
Villanova was a team that relied a little too heavily on three-pointers and lacked an inside offense. However, the three-point shot has been working for the Wildcats so far. If they continue to hit their three-point shots, Michigan will have a very tough time beating them.
For the first time in five years, the Wolverines have returned to the Men’s College Basketball Championship game. The Wolverines ended the cinderella run of Loyola-Chicago. Michigan beat Loyola with their inside and outside game. If they can play a well-balanced game Villanova might be in trouble.
The Wolverines have been clicking on all cylinders since winning the Big-Ten Tournament Championship in early-March. This tournament run really allowed the Wolverines to come together as a team and recover from nagging injuries. This match-up will really be a test for the Wolverines as Villanova might be the most defensively complete team Michigan has faced all season.
The Michigan Wolverines and Villanova Wildcats have outlasted 66 other teams. However, only one of these basketball power houses will become the 2017-2018 champion of Men’s College Basketball.
