Brushed Giants

After being clobbered by the New York Giants two weeks ago the Philadelphia Eagles finally got their chance for revenge this afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field. Philly’s vaunted rushing game (Gained 276 rushing yards in this contest) finally made an appearance this season, as they used it to blow New York off the field beating them 38-20 for Philly’s sixth win of the season.

The Eagles found their offensive rhythm early as their first offensive drive was capped off by a 60 plus yard rushing touchdown from Saquon Barkley (14 carries for 150 yards, 1 rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown), he went on to catch a touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts (completed 15/20 passes for 179 yards, and completed four touchdown passes) for his second of the day. This was Barkley’s best game of the season and Philly used multiple outside rushing plays, something they have not done a lot this season.

Using these plays in their scheme unlocked Barkley in this game and unlike last year the strength of the Eagles offensive line seems to be on the outside with Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson who have been the lineman who have played the most games this season. When they run to either side of them that is when the Eagles experience the most offensive successes. That will remain the case until both Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens get healthy. Additionally, the Eagles need to find someone who can be the other reliable lineman next to Jurgens. Philly should continue to mix in rushing plays that will give them opportunities to attack the outside of an opponent’s defensive scheme, like they did in this contest until their offensive line is completely healthy.

Today was Kevin Patullo’s best called game of the season he called a beautifully balanced game and mixed in the run-pass option (RPO), screen passes, play-action, and other plays that led the Eagles to their best offensive game of the season. Patullo getting into a play calling groove would be a big development for Philly, it took them until after the bye week for Kellen Moore to find his and that team went on to win another super bowl title.

The Giants were able to tie this game late in the first quarter and that was the closest this game got. Jalen Hurts found Dallas Goedert for touchdown receptions in this game and that ended any chance New York had to win this game. Also, they lost Cam Skattebo early in the second quarter to an ankle injury and he had to be carted off, and the energy was just taken out of New York after he went down.

Philly changed their defensive scheme and used more zone defensive schemes in their secondary which forced Jaxson Dart to go through his progressions, instead of having an easy read which is what happened in that contest two weeks ago in East Rutherford, NJ. That gave the Eagles defensive line enough time to get to him, as they sacked Dart five times in this contest. This was a very well called game by Vic Fangio (Eagles Defensive Coordinator) he confused Dart by shifting the line, calling exotic blitzes, and not killing themselves with penalties.

In all phases of the game the Eagles dominated the Giants and will now get two weeks to prepare to face the Green Bay Packers on Monday, November 10th, 2025. That should give Philly enough time to give AJ Brown, Jurgens, and Barkley healthy (He left this game early with a groin injury). The Eagles will need their best players to be healthy if they want to keep up with Green Bay’s explosive offensive scheme.

In addition, they will need to use the screen and slant passes, RPOs, and outside rushing plays to take advantage of the Packers aggressive defensive scheme. Implementing these things into their game plan will put them in great shape to win their seventh game of the season.
