The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs faced off in the super bowl for the second time in three years. Philly dominated this game from the opening kickoff by forcing three turnovers from Patrick Mahomes. That put the Eagles offense in great scoring positions, and they trounced Kansas City 40-22. With the win the Eagles get their second super bowl trophy and end the Chiefs pursuit of a three-peat.
The Eagles found their offensive rhythm early in this game, they were able to go right down the field and use the quick passing game to shred Kansas City’s dominant defensive unit. Hurts capped this second drive off with a brotherly shove rushing touchdown and then destroyed the Chiefs with his arm because Kansas City stopped the run game. He made them pay for that gamble he passed for 221 yards and completed two passing touchdowns in this game.
Hurts was the best offensive player the Eagles had in this game and the Chiefs had no answers for what he was doing. He would find AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Jahan Dotson, or Barkley in the open field which kept multiple drives alive in this contest. Additionally, it helped the Eagles dominate the time of possession and keep Mahomes and the Chiefs explosive offense off the field. This has been one of Philly’s greatest strengths throughout this season and it came through in this game.
It was not just the Eagles offense that bullied Kansas City throughout this game, their dominant defensive line put Mahomes on the ground six times in this game. They had him tap dancing like it was a Broadway show throughout this game, he could not step into multiple throws and got intercepted two times in this game.
They forced Mahomes to turn the ball over three times in this game and did all of that without having to blitz. That allowed the Eagles to play a zone defensive scheme and shutdown most of the big plays that the Chiefs rely on. Once those plays were taken away the Chiefs just could not keep up with the Eagles’ explosive offense.
That put a lot of pressure on their offensive line, and they just could not manage the amount of pressure the Eagles defense put on them and it got Mahomes and the entire offensive unit out of rhythm and they never really found it in this game.
The Eagles picked up right where they left off two weeks ago against the Washington Commanders, they were clearly motivated to beat down Kansas City from that super bowl loss two years ago. They imposed their will throughout this contest on each side of the ball, and once again played complementary football.
The Eagles have now ended the Chiefs pursuit of a three-peat and have now ended two dynastic teams within six years of each other. This Eagles team was constructed to dominate games and beat the Chiefs which is what they did in Super Bowl 59 and now Nick Sirianni has become one of the top coaches in the NFL, and Jalen Hurts now is firmly cemented as one of the top quarterbacks in this league. With Howie Roseman at the helm the Eagles could become the next dynasty in the NFL with the way they have drafted and hit on multiple free agents over the past few years.
